Shortly before spending several hours today vacuuming, washing, and buffing the car, I decided on a whim to do a bit of visual experimentation with a screwdriver and the front bumper...specifically, to see how old license plates would look on a modern automobile.
This is the original, circa-1986 version of the David Hornung-penned graphic design that gradually evolved into what's in use today. The blue-on-white colors were panned by law enforcement for looking identical to Illinois and Minnesota plates from more than a short distance away, and were soon changed. This incarnation of the design was last officially valid in 1994; although once in a blue moon I might see a front-plate vanity still in use today...
